The skyWriter window, with links back to the File Manager and the Series Manager.
The skyWriter lets you edit HTML source code and Preview the results before you Save it. You may create your code in skyWriter or create it in your favorite HTML editing tool like Dreamweaver or HomeSite, jEdit or BBedit and then Upload it into the sky. See below.
The WYSIWYG window lets you create styled text, insert images and tables, and then Save the result to see the required HTML tags inserted back in the skyWriter source editor. It's a great way to learn the HTML tags, and it produces clean code that is less than ten percent of the code created by Microsoft Word conversions. See below.
When you Duplicate a page, it makes an identical new page in the series. This means you can use it as a template, making only necessary changes to the text.
The new version is generally scheduled a few days in the future (this is adjustable). This gives the page editors and publishers time to approve it and publish it. When the new page is published, the old page version is archived. You can always rollback to an earlier version.
This conversion tool takes plain text (with no markup) and detects line breaks and paragraphs. It adds the appropriate tags so paragraphs appear correctly in HTML. It also converts http:// and mailto references in the page into properly formatted hyperlinks. You can just replace your page or copy selected parts of the new HTML code into your document. YOu can also paste formatted code into the WYSIWYG window. See below.
Your page code is sent to the W3C Tidy web service and returned as cleaned-up HTML. You can just replace your page or copy selected parts of the clean code into your document.
You can enter any address on the web to get the contents (HTML source code) of a page as the starting point for your page. This is very handy to make a new content page with CM Pros breadcrumbs. Just borrow the code from any other page in the same folder.
The CSS menu offers to style page elements as a <div> or <span> with any class or id attributes found in the css stylesheets included in the page.
Revert will restore the page to the last saved version.
Notifications are sent on page changes to everyone associated with the page. If a page is checked out for editing, another editor attempting to open it will be given a choice of cloning the page or contacting the person who has it open.
The simplest way to import Word (or any formatted document) into the skyWriter is to go into WYSIWYG mode and paste in copied material from the document. Select part or all of the original document on screen, copy, and then paste it into the WYSIWYG skyWriter at the desired location. Your formatting will be preserved, but there is a cost. The HTML will contain a lot of confusing markup tags.
Microsoft Word can convert .doc files to .html files, but the resulting code is loaded with deprecated markup tags (like FONT) that make it extremely difficult to locate the original content for editing.
CM Pros skyWriting tools create very clean and minimal HTML markup, suitable for changing the layout and appearance of the text using CSS. Below are four versions of the same CM Pros Board meeting minutes.
View the source in your browser (or open them in skyWriter) to see how bad the Microsoft code is and how difficult it is to edit.
3. Uploading content using the CM Pros File Manager
To upload any file into a folder on the CM Pros website, login, go to Pages > Manage Files and navigate to the desired folder.
Note that the Upload option has become a blue hyperlink.
Click Upload. A Browse button will appear. Click it and you will be asked to browse for the file in your machine that you want to upload.
When you have chosen a file, click Upload New File.
If you have selected an existing filename before you click Upload, you will be offered the option of replacing the existing file with the uploaded file.
