Glossary of Terms

The CM Pros Glossary contains over 270 definitions for technical terms used every day in the field of content management. Content management is a broad field, encompassing professionals from technical writers and graphic artists to information architects and user experience engineers.

The Glossary attempts to provide complete explanations of terms from each of these sub-disciplines to help CM Pros be generalists in a world of specialists.

Select a term from the drop-down menu. The definition opens in a popup window. You need popups enabled.

Some terms used in the definition have their own glossary entries. So you can continue to navigate related terms in the popup window. When you want to start with a new term, use the drop-down menu.

Terms with question marks do not yet have definitions.

The Glossary is being built collaboratively, under a Creative Commons license, at the CM Community wiki. If you want to add terms or definitions, you may register to join the Glossary project.

The Glossary is available as a web service. CM Pros may serve the Glossary from their own websites. Learn how.

Please report any problems with the CM Pros Glossary to the Glossary Manager.

As an added convenience, we provide links to over 20 online glossaries with terms relevant for content management, so you can extend your understanding of a particular term.
